Accountability is the Antithesis of Excuses
Accountability is arguably the most important leadership skill. All leaders have it, most people fear it, and it is rarely taught. Accountability is the guiding principle that defines how we make commitments, how we measure and report our progress, how we interact when things go wrong, and how we assume responsibility for ourselves. Accountability is how we avoid being victims of circumstance. Accountability is the antithesis of excuses. Arguably, the only real power that exists is the power over yourself, and accountability is the foundation of that power. All leaders must realize accountability in order to be leaders, whether they wish to lead people or lead themselves.
"When we are really honest with ourselves we must admit our lives are all that really belong to us. So it is how we use our lives that determines the kind of men we are."- Ceasar Chavez
